VIK launches new vintage in 100ml tubes

Chilean winery VIK has introduced an innovative packaging format for its 2021 vintage, presenting the wine in 100ml tubes as part of its launch on the prestigious La Place de Bordeaux platform. This unique approach, called 'A Journey to Perfection', offers wine enthusiasts a novel way to experience VIK's craftsmanship by providing separate tubes of the wine's components alongside the final blend, allowing for an interactive and educational tasting experience.


Unique 100ml Tube Packaging 

The innovative 100ml tube packaging offers several advantages for VIK's 2021 vintage. It provides a portable and convenient single-serve option, ideal for sampling and exploration without committing to a full bottle. The tubes are likely more environmentally friendly than traditional glass bottles, being lighter and more compact, which reduces transportation emissions. This unique format also allows consumers to experience the individual components of the blend separately, enhancing the educational aspect of wine tasting. While specific consumer feedback on VIK's tubes is not available, similar packaging formats have been well-received for their convenience and sustainability benefits.


VIK 2021 Vintage Composition 

Composed of 77% Cabernet Franc and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 vintage underwent a unique aging process. 90% of the blend matured for 26 months in Barroir barrels, part of VIK's proprietary barrel-toasting program, while the remaining 10% aged in clay amphorae. This meticulous process resulted in an elegant expression with a firm structure and polished tannins. The wine offers aromas of fine red and black fruits at perfect ripeness, complemented by spicy notes of black and white pepper, as well as a distinct sense of minerality and fine graphite.


Comparing VIK 2019 and 2021

The 2019 and 2021 vintages of VIK showcase distinct differences in composition and aging processes. While the 2019 blend consists of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 vintage reverses this ratio. The 2019 vintage aged for 20 months in French oak barrels followed by 6 months in Barroir barrels, resulting in enveloping flavors and aromas with exceptional cellaring potential. In contrast, the 2021 vintage's extended 26-month aging process in Barroir barrels and clay amphorae contributes to its elegant expression, firm structure, and polished tannins.
